If love is irresistible ,  so is Aphrodite's island - as Cyprus has been known since antiquity. Impressed  by the natural beauty , charm and easy going island pace, most visitors agree that this is a truly a fitting dwelling place for the goddess of love. The romantic side of Cyprus has inspired poets and novelist through the centuries.  

 

 

 

 

 

 

Cyprus is the third largest Mediterranean island after Sicily and Sardinian. It covers an area of 3,572 square miles . In Cyprus you can find a superb mountain scenery , forest , fascinating coastlines , and beaches as well as palaces o great historical and archaeological importance. A trip to the  mountains will provide a refreshing change from the heat of the beaches , with a delightfully  fresh air , cool nights scented with the aroma of pine trees and wild herbs. 

The  Troodos area is the site of dozen monasteries in the Byzantine - Greek Orthodox style . The western end of the island is now  coming more into its own for tourist activity with  Paphos as a center , a town with an old - world atmosphere which will be retained for a long time to come. Paphos is also noted for its stunning Roman mosaics and fabulous rock tombs .The south coast offers spectacular views and  Greco - Roman sides , as well as the  birthplace of Aphrodite.

 On  the north coast lies the small town of Polis and a few miles west , the little fishing harbor of Latchi.  Further west is the place where  Aphrodite used to take her bath , Fontana Amorosa , a perennial bubbling spring.

The  south east corner is another region which provides the almost unlimited versatility of Cyprus , the focal point being Ayia Napa with its historic monastery and lively fishing harbor.

Lefkosia (Nicosia) the capital is situated in the center of the  island .Is the only divided town in Europe.

Limassol is the second largest town in Cyprus and chief exporting town. Limassol is a delightful blend of old and new.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Larnaca stands on the side of Kitium ,another of the island's city kingdoms. Once the principle port of Cyprus and headquarters of foreign consuls , shipping agents and merchants until overshadowed by FAMAGUSTA harbor. Now   regaining importance with its newly build protected harbor , the yacht marina and the international airport.

 

 

 

 

Ammochostos  with the golden sandy beaches of the free (non Occupied)  Ammochostos district embrace the eastern corner of the island. The popular holiday resorts of Ayia Napa and Paralimni have been called a veritable paradise for anyone who loves the sea and water sports.
