The Republic of Cyprus is small , allowing visitors to cover the most of the tourist sights in a series of short trips. Since earliest times the beautiful Mediterranean island of Cyprus has welcomed visitors to her shores and today is one of Europe's most popular holiday and conference destinations. The island is a unique blend of stunning scenery and a rich  archeological inheritance that is intrinsically interwoven with the myths and legends of the beautiful  goddess Aphrodite whose legend  was to earn Cyprus the name " Island of Love " Wherever you travel the rich history of the island is evident.

Today Cyprus is a unique blend of European culture . The major towns offer bright modern shops , international cuisine and all types of leisure facilities , whilst in complete contrast, life in the villages still interwoven with the passing seasons and continues at a leisurely pace.

Nicosia  the capital , is situated roughly in the center of the island about one hour 's drive from Larnaca's International Airport .It only became capital of the island in the 11th century AD. The heart of the city , enclosed the 16th century Venetian walls, is dotted with museums , ancient churches and mediaeval buildings preserving the nostalgic atmosphere of the past years.

Yet  this old heart is split in two , leaving Nicosia the only capital city to remain divided by force.

The new Nicosia developed outside the walls, and became a contemporary and cosmopolitan business and culture center. It has the cosmopolitan appeal of a modern European city .

The island's ancient treasures and colorful folk history are display in the city's fascinating museums, including the Cyprus and Byzantine Museums.

A dusk falls , the bright lights of the capital beckon visitors to enjoy a wealth of good restaurants , theater and cultural events.
